ART EXPERIENCE

This month in Art we will be enjoying a lot of “hands-on” fun. Art will focus on all the important events/holidays of February. First, since February 2, is Groundhog Day, the children will complete a Groundhog project. Some special art projects for Valentine’s Day include creating our own special Valentine’s bags, Handprint hearts, and friendship blossoms. Since this February is a very special February, the children will close out the month completing a leap year project.

LANGUAGE ARTS

This month in Language Arts, we will focus on the letters “Pp”, “Qq”, “Rr” and “Ss”. February 2 and 3 will be Pajama Day in honor of letter “Pp.” What words can you think of that begin with the letter “Qq” and “Rr”? +To fight the winter blues, we will pretend to take a trip to the seashore with a suitcase full of “Ss” things. Also, we will continue work with Spanish, this month focusing on numbers 1-5.

GYM AND MUSIC

This month in Gym & Music, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we will be doing heart healthy aerobics, playing friendship tag and learning how to play kickball. To celebrate President’s Day, we will be playing a group game called “Who chopped down the cherry tree.” On February 13 and 14, we will be having our Student Sweetheart Dance! DJ “M” will be spinning the records while our children enjoy a dance with their sweetheart. Prom wear is optional! (Hee Hee)

MATH AND SCIENCE

It’s a fun-filled fabulous February in Math and Science. Our themes are Groundhog’s Day, Dental Health, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day and Dinosaur Fun! Our special colors are pink and purple. Our special shape is a heart. We will continue working on counting and numbers focusing on number 11 and 12 this month. We will also be cooking up a special “Stone Age” drink during our dinosaur unit. It will be a wonderful month of learning, play, and fun!

This month in Art experience will be very hands-on. The children will be completing a groundhog project in honor of Puxatawny Phil. Also, the students will create lots of Valentine’s art work including Valentine’s bags for our Valentine’s party. In Language Arts, we will be focusing on letters “Oo”, “Pp”, “Qq”, and “Rr”. For the letter “Pp”, we will have pajama day on February 10. The children may come to school in pajamas. Also, we will have a special popcorn treat in honor of letter “Pp”. In Math and Science, we will continue to work with our numbers and recognition of numbers and shapes. Finally, in Gym and Music, we will focus this month on heart healthy activities. We will end the month with the “Don’t break my heart” relay races. Also, since February is known as Children’s Dental Health Month, we will be having a special visit from a local dentist to talk about how to keep our teeth healthy. Along with our dentist visit, many projects and activities will be done throughout the month to encourage good dental hygiene.
